Tips on Taking a Virtual/Online Pilates Session
No time to make it to the Pilates studio but still want to get a workout with a teacher in? Take a virtual Pilates session! I teach Virtual Pilates sessions over video conference and my students love them. This is a good way to get your workout in, as you have to stay accountable to someone and your workout is still based on your needs at that time. My clients love virtual Pilates sessions because I get creative with their sessions. Because they are in a different environment we do things differently and that helps them feel the movement in a different way. They like being able to stay at home with the kids on a snow day or sick day and still get their workout in without needing a babysitter. They love not adding in commute time when their schedule is tight. One of my clients recently said “I had no idea how badly I needed this time to focus on myself, not have to talk to anyone and just move my body. I’m happy I kept my session because I needed this stress relief."
You don’t even need any equipment to do a virtual session. If you don’t have a mat you can lay on two towels or carpet is usually enough padding to protect your spine.

Virtual Pilates helps you stay consistent with your practice. Pilates helps you deal with stress, get your blood pumping and helps you stay healthy. Here are some tips to help you have an awesome virtual Pilates session.
Make sure you have a good wifi connection.
If you are using a video conference platform like Zoom, make sure your software is downloaded and up to date ahead of time.
Make sure you have space to move and your teacher can see you in the video. If you can’t get an angle so your full body is visible that is ok. I can usually still tell what’s going on with the rest of your body, even if I can’t see it all at once. I can still give you helpful cues and suggestions too. If possible try different angles to see where your body is best visible.
Have an open mind. Virtual private sessions can help you keep moving by providing accountability from your teacher, movement based on your needs that day and working toward your goals.
If you do have Pilates or exercise equipment, like a magic circle or weights, make sure they are readily available to use in your session.
Most important, tell whomever else might be around that you are unavailable for your session time so you get the most out of it.
Taking Pilates is part of keeping your energy up and your stress low so you can stay healthy. Pilates helps you breath fully so you can get all the unhealthy air out of your lungs. The fresh oxygen helps to purify your blood. The movement and breathing helps the blood pump faster and travel through your body better. Keep up with your Pilates to stay conditioned and healthy so we can all move forward. If you need to stay home, that is ok. But you can still get your Pilates in!
